CapTech’s journey to bring TGL vision to life began with defining the core product components. Thereafter, we shifted our focus to collaborating with TGL on its foundational technology architecture and strategy. Given our experience building scoring and competition platforms across golf and racing, CapTech quickly became TGL’s trusted vendor for data and technology support. Along the way, there were a few key considerations.
- Cutting-Edge Technology Was Essential: CapTech wrote the first line of code at TGL, and there were no legacy systems or tech debt for which to account. Knowing that the platform would support TGL for many years to come, CapTech recommended a modern, event-driven, cloud-based solution with a focus on cost management (serverless), as well as the ability to scale to support multiple live sporting events concurrently. The goal was to design for tomorrow, but build for today.
- Efficiency and Resiliency: We examined multiple use cases for technology, and ultimately aligned on having all things scoring, schedule, and league management fall under a single umbrella; this was named ScoreSight. With a primetime event, and the world watching, we knew that the system had to absorb significant volume from all consumers of the data. The platform was designed with multiple resiliency components in mind, preparing TGL to handle anything that may come their way during match nights. With ScoreSight interacting with so many data producers and consumers, we were also able to lead and work with other vendors to add resiliency from top to bottom.
- Scalability was Significant: Throughout our partnership, CapTech strived to ensure that TGL’s IT strategy was built for the future – designed to support new sports and rapidly scale to address consumer interests. CapTech prioritized building standard and repeatable technology patterns both in and out of the system to rapidly onboard new producers or consumers with minimal work.
While ScoreSight was the most significant initiative that TGL partnered with CapTech to build, we also helped TGL with a variety of efforts spanning across architecture, data, vendor management, and implementation, providing guidance to almost every key activity and decision.
From the beginning, CapTech was part of the TGL team, reporting to the CTO and VP of Gameplay & Technology. Building a platform of this size (tested, deployed, and integrated) in under a year was no small task, especially given TGL had no existing cloud infrastructure or firm requirements. But by letting TGL focus on the important decisions, CapTech focused on executive oversight, program management, product management, customer/user experience counsel, and many engineers.
We are deeply committed to the success of the league and proud to be an Official Technology Partner of TGL.
