Food insecurity affects 34 million people in the United States, 9 million of whom are children. To take a bite out of hunger, in 2013, two CapTech accounts began competing against each other annually to see who could donate the most food to local food banks. The friendly competition quickly caught the attention of other CapTechers, and accounts from every department started embracing their competitive spirit to drive participation and make a lasting impact in their communities. Before long, the Food Fight had become a proud CapTech tradition.
In 2020, the COVID pandemic exacerbated food insecurity to an unprecedented degree. To properly respond, we knew we had to significantly scale our efforts and impact. That year, we shattered all previous donation records by raising a whopping $88,000. Matched by CapTech leadership for a total of $176,850, we were able to provide 700,000 meals to people facing food insecurity.
With COVID still rampant and economic challenges surmounting, we knew we had to think even bigger in 2022. So, we took the Food Fight beyond our local eight offices and into every zip code across the nation via Feeding America®, the largest hunger-relief organization in the United States.
On October 21, 2022, all CapTechers were divided into seven Care Teams to battle it out on the virtual field. Each team had its own fundraising goal, and to increase participation, team members offered creative “fun-raising” incentives for reaching certain milestones.
After a wild 10 days that saw massive engagement in every department, the 2022 Food Fight came to a thrilling close, with $20,000 raised on the very last day to make it a true buzzer-beater of a finale. When all was added up, the combined forces of employee donations and CapTech contributions totaled over $130,000, making us the #4 Top Fundraiser and the #1 Top Team on Feeding America’s Team Feed Corporate program at the time.
While we set to scale our reach nationally by partnering with Feeding America, CapTech wanted to ensure that our previous partnerships continued to benefit directly from our Food Fight efforts and donated an additional $20,000 directly to those local office food banks, providing a Food Fight grand total of over $150,000 and at least 1.5 million meals to people facing food insecurity across the country.
Food Fight is just as much about raising money as it is about raising awareness, which is critical to building knowledge, empathy, and action. We believe it is our responsibility to make a difference in our communities, and we are proud to say that with the support of our dedicated employees we were able to make a real impact.
“Thank you, CapTech team for your incredible generosity during your food fight in October and for your holiday gift!”
