A team of CapTech volunteers recently facilitated a day of training in partnership with the Philadelphia chapter of TechImpact, a non-profit organization that helps other nonprofits realize the potential of technology to achieve their mission and improve outcomes.

The May 26 training day supported TechImpact's ITWorks program, an award winning 16-week job-training program that offers free, immersive IT training to motivated high school graduates, 18-26 years old, who haven't yet completed a bachelor's degree. Students earn a professional certification in IT and a real-world internship inside leading corporations and nonprofits.

In conjunction with the ITWorks program, once each week, a local company hosts and delivers a training session focused on non-technical, professional skills. Volunteers from the CapTech Philadelphia office did this with a focus on transition and change management – things to consider when moving from the training environment to an internship and, ultimately, to full-time employment.

"We've always been impressed with the TechImpact organization overall and really inspired when we've heard the stories related to the success the students of the ITWorks program have had," said Andy Sofish, a principal in CapTech's Philadelphia office.

"As we learned more about the ITWorks program and found out about the opportunity to host a training session, we felt like it was a perfect opportunity for our office to work together and get directly involved. Their focus on strengthening young people, creating opportunities through technology and providing continuing education are all things that resonate with our consultants and make it a great group for us to partner with," he said.

CapTech has been involved with TechImpact for more than four years, providing pro-bono consulting services and sponsoring and attending the organization's annual fundraising luncheon each year.
